Private Eye Care at Parkside, Frimley Park Hospital

Mr Neil Modi, Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon, offers private cataract, lens replacement, glaucoma, eyelid and dry eye care at the Parkside Suite, the private patient unit of Frimley Park Hospital, for patients from Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire. Consultations, laser treatment and surgery are all available here, for insured and self-funding patients.

Mr Modi has worked at Frimley as Consultant Ophthalmologist for over a decade. He has held posts including laser and glaucoma lead as well as lead consultant for Ophthalmology. He was the first surgeon in Surrey and Hampshire to implant the Rayner Galaxy lens, in December 2024. He was also the first in Surrey to use the iStent Infinite, Hydrus and Preserflo glaucoma devices, and introduced Hydrus and Preserflo to Frimley Park.

Patients seen privately at Parkside are treated in the same hospital, by a surgeon who works there throughout the week. His private clinics at Parkside run on Monday evenings, which suits patients who work during the day.

Why patients choose Parkside

  • A full hospital behind you. Parkside sits within a major NHS hospital with on-site support 24 hours a day. It is rare for any patient to need transferring elsewhere.
  • Continuity of care. Mr Modi is at Frimley Park most days of the week, so follow-up and any unexpected concerns stay with the same team.

Treatments available at Parkside

Cataract and lens surgery

Mr Modi has performed over 5,000 cataract operations, including many of the most complex cases. Every assessment includes precise measurements of the eye (biometry) and a full discussion of lens choices: standard monofocal, extended depth of focus such as the Rayner EMV, multifocal, and toric lenses to correct astigmatism. Premium options include the Rayner Galaxy lens.

Glaucoma

Mr Modi leads the glaucoma service at Frimley Park and is a full member of the UK and Eire Glaucoma Society. A private glaucoma assessment includes eye pressure, gonioscopy, Humphrey visual fields, Heidelberg high-resolution OCT scanning of the optic nerve and corneal thickness, followed by a written, personalised treatment plan.

Eyelid surgery (oculoplastics)

Mr Modi is a full member of the British Oculoplastic Surgery Society (BOPSS).

Dry eye and blepharitis

Mr Modi is a member of the Dry Eye Society of the Americas and carries out a full dry eye assessment at Parkside to find the underlying cause before recommending treatment.

Parkside has Heidelberg high-resolution OCT, Humphrey visual field testing and biometry on site, so scans do not require a separate visit. Mr Modi then goes through the findings with you and agrees a treatment plan, which is confirmed in writing. If surgery is recommended, it takes place at Parkside, Frimley Park Hospital.

Fees and insurance

  • New consultation: £260
  • Follow-up consultation: £170
  • Additional tests are charged separately where needed.

Self-funding patients receive a fixed, all-inclusive price for surgery after assessment. Mr Modi is recognised by all major UK health insurers, including BUPA, AXA Health, Aviva, Vitality and WPA. Insured patients should obtain an authorisation number before their first appointment.
